7:55 pm in Entrepreneurship, Financing, General, Starting up by Nicolas Rouhana

An Executive Summary is like a “sales pitch” of your idea or project that should wet enough appetite to attract interest to learn more, pretty much like a trailer does to a movie. So not getting your Executive Summary right could lead to your message not going through and hence to missed opportunities. This post gathers general instructions for coming up with a successful Executive Summary, and contains also a downloadable written example at the end.

It’s this time of year…

4:31 pm in Berytech News, Entrepreneurship, Financing, General, Meet the Entrepreneurs, Social Media by Tania Saba Mazraani

… when GEW comes knocking on our doors. Global Entrepreneurship Week has become a date a lot of people look forward to around the globe and Lebanon is no exception. During one week in November, 120 countries will be organizing events between the 14th and the 20th intended to celebrate, inspire and invigorate entrepreneurship. Much more than 7 days, GEW is a movement of people, ideas and dreams.

Lebanon’s GEW coalition is growing bigger and stronger with the addition of new partners to the coalition. In this 2011 edition, 25 partners will be organizing more than 35 activities, starting tomorrow.

And just like last year, the buzz, the spirit of collaboration, the passion about entrepreneurship is still there. But most importantly as partners, we are organizing these events, so that you, the entrepreneur, will be there too.

So if you are starting in business, or looking to grow your existing company, if you want to connect with like-minded peer, or find out who can fund and support you going forward, than this week is for you.

For a full calendar of events check out the partners’ website on www.gewlebanon.org , twitter: @gewlebanon , FB: GEW Lebanon

Don’t miss Berytech’s Entrepreneurs Forum organized with the support of IDAL taking place on November 16 from 3 to 9 PM in Berytech Mar Roukoz. www.entrepreneurs-forum.org

Mowgli & the Indian giver

Taking Pride in Contribution
During the past week, I was encouraged to take part in the Mowgli Mentorship Experience, an experience that I fully enjoyed until I was questioned about what I have learned. I was certain I learned something but it took me some time to frame it in the right words, you must hand it to Ian and Lynn who made the whole learning process feel so seamless.
To me there were two main highlights during those three days in the mountains. While discussing with the mentors and entrepreneurs I kept citing a couple of books I read a long time ago. The first is Mutual Aid by Russian evolutionary theorist Peter Kropotkin and the second is The Cathedral & the Bazaar by American computer programmer Eric S. Raymond. Both books, although almost a century apart and written in completely separate fields, touch on the notion of The Gift Culture. Read the rest of this entry →

Wonder Eight: The value of mentoring to an established business

9:48 am in Entrepreneurship, Meet the Entrepreneurs by Aphrodite Bassil

Boudy and Walid Nasrala are two brothers who own one of Beirut’s most successful and well known creative agencies, Wonder Eight. A 9 year old business, Wonder Eight was already established but needed a ‘push’ to take it to the next level. Walid (the creative) and Boudy (the businessman) knew each other so well – and had been having the same discussions so often- that they never quite came up with concrete actions to achieve the next phase of growth. “We had the same conversations all the time.” says Boudy. “We never questioned our actions, and never debated our ideas together…so we never really got anywhere. “ Read the rest of this entry →

Spreading Mentoring Culture across the Mediterranean

9:03 am in Entrepreneurship, General, Starting up by Nicolas Rouhana

In Greek mythology, king Odysseus placed his friend Mentor in charge of his son Telemachus when Odysseus left for the Trojan War. Because of Mentor’s relationship with Telemachus and practical plans for dealing personal dilemmas, the personal name Mentor has been adopted in English as a term meaning someone who imparts wisdom to and shares knowledge with a less experienced colleague.

Nowadays, mentoring has been recognized as a one of the pillars in entrepreneurship education. Different than a business advisor or consultant, a mentor is someone that cares more about the person than the business itself; so if the entrepreneur is doing fine, this surely reflects positively on his/her business.
