TATHMEER launched its first activity last week with the first of a 3 session workshop: an “Introduction to Preventive Health Care”. TATHMEER works on strengthening capacities as a preventive measure for self-sufficiency. TATHMEER, in line with its vision of strong conscious, cultured, aware, empowered, creative, self-determined local stakeholders, pro-actively engaged in sustained local development, part of a harmonious global culture grounded in Justice for all, saw fit to start its empowerment activities by focusing on the health of the social actors and other local stakeholders from a preventive health care perspective.

Beirut Creative Cluster at the Creative Media Days- Belgium

The Creative Media Days investigate the role of ICT innovation in media, focusing on the creative possibilities and the emergence of new business models. The BCC took part in a series of conferences and workshops that looked into new business models, innovative technology and emerging platforms and applications.

The BCC at the Technology & Competitiveness Institute conference in Spain

450 delegates from around the world participated in the 15th TCI annual global conference which was held in San Sebastian from the 15th to the 19th of October.

The theme of the conference was “Constructing Place-based Competitiveness in Times of Global Change”. A lot of attention has been given to firm- and cluster- level strategies for competitiveness and strategies for ensuring sustainable competitiveness and development.

Hosted in a part of the world renowned for building competitiveness strategy; the conference also offered an opportunity to share and reflect on the competitiveness trajectory of the Basque Country, a Spanish region with strong tradition, experience and results in cluster and competitiveness policy. Delegates had the chance to explore some of the region’s innovative clusters – renewable energy, machine tools, wine and tourism … – and unique experiences such as the city regeneration of Bilbao or the cooperative organization of Mondragon.

BCC Awarded European Label of Excellence

During the 15th TCI annual global conference which was held in San Sebastian from the 15th to the 19th of October, the European Secretariat for Cluster Analysis (ESCA) awarded the Beirut Creative Cluster (BCC)  the European Bronze Label for Cluster Management Excellence.

The benchmarking methodology used structured interviews carried out in a workshop format by a director of ESCA. The focus is a review and comparison of the cluster management with respect to various portfolios of cluster organizations worldwide. The special workshop session was offered during the 15th TCI Annual Global Conference.

The methodology of benchmarking of cluster management organizations was developed by: VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH (VDI/VDE-IT) by a special request from the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. In a previous post found here, I cited 10 good reasons to go to Lappeenranta this summer. Well now I added another reason, which is the best of all and it’s the Entrepreneurs Award“. The Kauffman FastTrack META Group Europe Entrepreneurs Award is an initiative promoted by META Group and EBN aiming at selecting entrepreneurs, having recently established a high-growth potential start up or holders of and innovative business idea in the creative industry.

Berytech Launches a Media Cluster

During the second week of May, Berytech organized a series of group sessions, workshops and individual meetings revolving around the launch of a media cluster.
The sessions were animated by Mr. Alain Tubiana, Managing Director of image cluster ICONOVAL, and member of the board of the French National Clusters Association.
His work in Lebanon was divided into four parts.
The first day was dedicated to the Berytech team, Mr. Tubiana shared his knowledge around cluster models and discussed sustainability issues while Berytech shared with him the work that has been done since August of 2011 consisting of reports and presentations about the local media industries.
