Networking is an essential business tool that should not be overlooked. It helps to favor luck and opportunities by multiplying encounters and creating around you a space of possibilities. Mowgli & the Indian giver

Taking Pride in Contribution
During the past week, I was encouraged to take part in the Mowgli Mentorship Experience, an experience that I fully enjoyed until I was questioned about what I have learned. I was certain I learned something but it took me some time to frame it in the right words, you must hand it to Ian and Lynn who made the whole learning process feel so seamless.
To me there were two main highlights during those three days in the mountains. While discussing with the mentors and entrepreneurs I kept citing a couple of books I read a long time ago. The first is Mutual Aid by Russian evolutionary theorist Peter Kropotkin and the second is The Cathedral & the Bazaar by American computer programmer Eric S. Raymond. Both books, although almost a century apart and written in completely separate fields, touch on the notion of The Gift Culture. Read the rest of this entry →

Spreading Mentoring Culture across the Mediterranean

9:03 am in Entrepreneurship, General, Starting up by Nicolas Rouhana

In Greek mythology, king Odysseus placed his friend Mentor in charge of his son Telemachus when Odysseus left for the Trojan War. Because of Mentor’s relationship with Telemachus and practical plans for dealing personal dilemmas, the personal name Mentor has been adopted in English as a term meaning someone who imparts wisdom to and shares knowledge with a less experienced colleague.

Nowadays, mentoring has been recognized as a one of the pillars in entrepreneurship education. Different than a business advisor or consultant, a mentor is someone that cares more about the person than the business itself; so if the entrepreneur is doing fine, this surely reflects positively on his/her business.

Why is Body Language Important?!

2:07 pm in Berytech News, Entrepreneurship, General by Tania Saba Mazraani

Most professionals are at least fairly equipped to communicate verbally. Since our first day of school and throughout our days at college or university, we are taught to read, analyze, use and manipulate words. But what about the nonverbal side of the equation? That unspoken language, those little nonverbal signals and hidden meanings that lurk behind and beyond speech. As an entrepreneur looking to succeed as an employer, a partner or potential supplier to your clients, achieving productivity and getting results in the workplace largely depends on the nonverbal messages you send to others and your ability to interpret these often mixed messages when you are on the receiving end.

Noticing the signals that people send out unconsciously with a move of their eye, hands or body, is a very useful social and business skill. If some of us can read it naturally and decipher it, some of us are still oblivious to these non-verbal clues. Fortunately, with a bit of alertness, you can learn to read body language.

If you want to know more about this exciting topic, join us on Thursday January 27 2011 from 9.00 AM to 12.00 PM in Berytech Technology & Health, Damascus Rd., 10th Floor, Beirut.
