Most professionals are at least fairly equipped to communicate verbally. Since our first day of school and throughout our days at college or university, we are taught to read, analyze, use and manipulate words. But what about the nonverbal side of the equation? That unspoken language, those little nonverbal signals and hidden meanings that lurk behind and beyond speech. As an entrepreneur looking to succeed as an employer, a partner or potential supplier to your clients, achieving productivity and getting results in the workplace largely depends on the nonverbal messages you send to others and your ability to interpret these often mixed messages when you are on the receiving end.
Noticing the signals that people send out unconsciously with a move of their eye, hands or body, is a very useful social and business skill. If some of us can read it naturally and decipher it, some of us are still oblivious to these non-verbal clues. Fortunately, with a bit of alertness, you can learn to read body language.
